Path of the Idle Cultivator Walk the Beast Origin
Six named Divine Beasts, parts, eggs, auto-hunt, and the slowest friendship payday in Early Access.
Beast is the origin that bonds you to the Divine Beast layer of Path of the Idle Cultivator. You do not pick up claws; you build a menagerie and wait for eggs. Steam Early Access opened on 5 Sep 2026 (app 5007580, free to play). The game is single-player, English. Optional Patreon Fate bonuses do not gate beasts, parts, or friendship.
If you want the Beast origin without the Beast origin, any life can train Claw and farm Divine Beasts on the map. Beast origin is the committed version: a deeper questline, a beast-specific bloodline filter, and a patience contract that makes Demonic look impulsive. Rank on the origins tier list: B for rebirth value and honest combat, C for first-life speed. Full Divine Beasts walkthrough is the companion page — this page is the origin contract.
The six named roster
Divine Beasts are map legends. Beast origin bonds you to them harder than other lives:
- Snow Crane
- Venom Serpent
- Azure Dragon
- Thunder Tiger
- Starborn Tortoise
- Ethereal Serpent
These names appear on the map, in the Empyrean Menagerie panel, and in the bloodline canvas filter. They are not random drops — each has specific parts and eggs tied to its type. Treating them as interchangeable loot bags is how people end up with six beasts and no usable bloodline.
Auto-hunt versus auto-friend
Two automation modes sit on every beast:
- Auto-hunt — fight them as a farm. Parts drop for bloodline. Faster. Meaner. No friendship payday.
- Auto-friend — befriend them. Harder than hunting. Success is how you get parts plus eggs without turning every legend into meat.
Beast origin players lean toward auto-friend by default. Parts income is already slower than combat lives; eggs are the real payday. But befriending everything because it is cute can starve the bloodline canvas when you need nodes, not stickers.
Set hunt or friend by role. Check the power indicator before you commit. Map bosses scale over time — a node you could clear yesterday may have outpaced you while you were idle.
Absorb toward a goal
Beasts can absorb one another. That is a merge, not a delete button. Feed toward the part or egg you actually want. A full zoo with no absorb plan is storage.
The practical absorb order:
- Name the part or egg you are building toward.
- Keep the beast that drops it.
- Feed extras into that line.
- Do not absorb your only friend just to tidy the panel.
Auto Absorb on the bloodline canvas is a different button. Beast-on-beast absorb is the menagerie. Do not confuse them.
Claw weapon tree
Beast pairs with the Claw weapon tree. Fist, Palm, Sword, Spear, Staff, Axe, Fan, and Zither are other trees; Claw is the beast-adjacent one. Bloodline canvas has a Beast filter separate from the weapon filters.
A Beast origin who forges a trophy zither and never trains Claw is collecting furniture. Train the weapon the origin asks for.
First-life speed and the patience contract
First-life speed is the honest weakness. Beast friendship is a drip, not a chest. Eggs arrive over time. Parts need you to actually clear map nodes against scaling enemies. A Beast origin on hour one feels slower than Common or Sword.
Rebirth value is where Beast earns its rank. Bloodline parts and eggs persist better than pill stacks. A Beast life with two or three full lines on the canvas is a different investment than a first Beast life. Keep the menagerie across lives.
How a Beast life should feel
Hour one: lean into the UI, start running auto-friend on available nodes, train Claw. Day one: origin quests, first tribulations, beast bonds forming. Later: eggs arriving, absorb toward named goals, bloodline filter locked to Beast, Claw proficiency still climbing.
Compare yourself to Sword on the wrong metric and Beast looks broken. Compare Beast to Beast after three rebirths with a full menagerie and it looks like a retirement account. The origin is a slow build, not a starter kit.
After Beast, open the origins hub for the full roster, or the weapons tier list if you want to compare trees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What Divine Beasts are named?
Snow Crane, Venom Serpent, Azure Dragon, Thunder Tiger, Starborn Tortoise, and Ethereal Serpent. They live on the map and in the Empyrean Menagerie.
Auto-hunt or auto-friend as Beast origin?
Beast origin leans toward auto-friend for eggs, but hunt still earns parts faster. Set by role and check the power indicator before you commit.
What weapon does Beast origin use?
Claw is the beast-adjacent tree. Train it while you run the menagerie. Other trees work; Claw is the origin match.
Is Beast good for a first life?
No. First-life speed is slow. Common or Sword to learn the UI, then Beast as a later life with patience already built in.
Do parts and eggs persist across rebirth?
Bloodline parts and stored eggs are more persistent than pill stacks. Keep the menagerie across lives rather than rebuilding from zero.
