Steam Early Access

Path of the Idle Cultivator entered Steam Early Access on 5 Sep 2026 as app 5007580. It is free to play, English-only, single-player, published by Wuxia Games and developed by Wuxia Dev. The matching itch build is v0.5: it finishes Ascension 1, overhauls combat, and starts a cave/dungeon overhaul. This page restates the Steam Early Access FAQ in player language, then adds the save-transfer steps the developer posted on itch the same week.

This is still Early Access. The store page is the source for “how long” and “what is in.” Patch Notes is the source for what each numbered build actually did.

Why Early Access

The developer’s store answer is blunt: the game is already playable and fun, but it does not contain all planned content. Right now you get the full Pre-Ascension journey and the first Ascension — cultivation, combat, crafting, sect management, world map, and the systems that stitch those together. The stated vision is at least three Ascensions. Each later Ascension is supposed to expand the universe and raise the power ceiling, not just add zeros.

They chose Early Access because idle-cultivation games live or die on pacing and long-term hooks. The plan is to ship a solid foundation, watch how people actually sit, die, and rebirth, then build the remaining Ascensions against that behaviour. That is also why this wiki will keep saying Early Access until the store stops saying it.

About one year — not a hard ship date

Steam’s FAQ: expect approximately one year in Early Access. That window is for remaining Ascensions, pacing, balance, and polish before calling the game feature-complete. The same paragraph says the priority is testing and balance, not rushing a fixed date. The timeframe can move.

Read that as a planning horizon, not a calendar appointment. v0.4.2 already put a playable Hell and Heaven slice on the board for Ascension 2, then v0.5 closed Ascension 1 for the Steam opening. The remaining work is still measured in Ascensions, not in a week of bugfixes.

What is in the Early Access build

Steam: the EA version is fully playable and represents roughly 50% of planned total content.

Included:

  • Complete Pre-Ascension climb (the long Mortal-to-Dao / Body Tempering-to-Immortal Ancestor fantasy).
  • Ascension 1, finished as of v0.5.
  • Core systems already wired together: cultivation, combat, crafting, sects, world map, planet-conquest tools, and the extra ladders you unlock along the way.

Not included yet:

  • The additional Ascensions planned for a complete version (at least two more after the first).
  • The full Hell and Heaven finish for Ascension 2 (playable from v0.4.2, unfinished).
  • Galaxy / map conquest, new realms, new bosses, new equipment, and powerscaling the store lists as full-version goals.

If a YouTube video from mid-2026 talks about “the whole game,” it is talking about Pre-Ascension plus whatever slice of Ascension 1 existed that week. Start from Getting Started on the v0.5 ruleset.

Always free to play

Steam’s pricing FAQ: the game will always be free to play, during and after Early Access. There are no plans to add a purchase price.

Optional support is Patreon. Patreon supporters get bonus perks (Fate-side). The store says those perks do not affect core game content — systems, progression, and content stay free. This wiki treats Fate bonuses as optional cosmetics / helpers, not as a paywall in front of realms.

Community: Discord first

Steam names Discord as the primary hub for feedback, bugs, balance talk, and talking to the team. Player reports there are supposed to shape pacing and the remaining Ascensions. itch comments still work, and the developer still answers them, but Discord is where saves get inspected and origin bugs get reproduced.

Official invite used across Steam and itch: https://discord.gg/zKPUh6xUcF.

Patreon for design notes that no longer all land on itch: https://www.patreon.com/c/PathOfCultivator. v0.4 already moved longer dev thoughts there.

itch still exists

Steam Early Access did not retire the itch page. https://wuxiadev.itch.io/idle-cultivation-path still offers:

  • HTML5 in the browser
  • Windows zip
  • Android APK

The web client at cultivator-path.com is the same family of builds. Use Steam if you want Cloud, achievements (the store lists 100), and the EA storefront. Use itch if you want a browser tab or a phone APK. Progress is not automatic across those stores.

Save import: itch / browser → Steam

The developer’s itch reply, word for word in spirit: Settings (gear on the speed tab) → export, then import on Steam.

Practical steps:

  1. Pause the client (P on PC).
  2. Open Settings — the gear on the speed tab, not a random Combat menu.
  3. Export the save to a file you can find.
  4. Install the Steam build, open it, import that file.
  5. Confirm realm, origin, and spirit stones before you overwrite anything else.

Steam Cloud can keep the Steam slot backed up after import. It will not pull an itch IndexedDB save by itself. Export first. More HUD detail is on Hotkeys.

If a transfer looks empty, you exported the wrong slot or the browser cleared site data. The developer has asked for saves on Discord before; that is still the support path, not a wiki reset button.

Platforms and language

  • Steam — Windows, Early Access, F2P, Cloud, achievements, family sharing as listed on the store.
  • itch.io — HTML5, Windows, Android.
  • cultivator-path.com — web client.
  • Language — English interface and subtitles. No other languages on the store table.
  • Mode — single-player. Sects, disciples, and clans are systems you manage, not other humans.

Minimum store specs are light (Windows 10, dual-core, 2 GB RAM, integrated GPU, tiny disk). This is still a long-session idle client: keep the tab focused if you expect hotkeys to fire.

What “50%” should mean to you

Fifty percent is a content claim, not a score. You can play for a very long time inside Pre-Ascension plus Ascension 1. You cannot play a finished Ascension 2, and you cannot play the later galaxy-conquest fantasy the store describes for 1.0. Hell and Heaven are a preview of that direction. Treat them as a construction site with loot, not as a second campaign you failed.

When v0.5 says it finishes Ascension 1, that is the EA promise catching up to the store page. When a later patch finishes Hell and Heaven, this page should move that sentence. Until then, do not plan a life around systems the News tab still calls unfinished.

Official store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5007580/Path_of_the_idle_cultivator/. For numbered changes inside EA, skip the marketing paragraph and open Patch Notes. For the first hour in the Steam client, use Getting Started.

The useful Early Access habit is small: export before you switch machines, read News after a Tuesday surprise, and keep Discord for the bugs this wiki will only hear about later. The rest of the climb is still sit, fight, die, and keep the soul power — just on a storefront that can now take a save you already bled for on itch.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

When did Steam Early Access open?

5 Sep 2026, app 5007580, free to play. itch.io and the web client still exist alongside Steam.

How long will Early Access last?

The store says approximately one year, with room to slip if balance and remaining Ascensions need more time. It is a horizon, not a fixed-date promise.

Is the game going to cost money after Early Access?

No. Steam’s FAQ says it will always be free to play. Patreon is optional and does not gate core content.

How much content is in the Steam build?

About 50% of the planned total: full Pre-Ascension plus Ascension 1 (finished in v0.5). Later Ascensions are still in development.

How do I import an itch or browser save?

Settings (gear on the speed tab) → export, then import on Steam. Pause first. Steam Cloud will not grab an itch save by itself.

Where should I send bugs?

Discord (https://discord.gg/zKPUh6xUcF) is the hub named on the store. Bring a save if the developer asks.
